Recommendations on working with reports and analytics

General principles

WorkPoint allows using three classes of analytics:

  • Operating indicators. Can be used for daily control and analysis of the basic indicators.
  • Reports. Provides deep analytics and allows export to Excel.
  • Business analytics. Can be used to create complex reports with several data sources, complex structure, and big data volume processing.

Operating indicators

Operating indicators represent data obtained from the basic interface of the system. In the majority of cases, they cover 75% of the analytics demands.

Analytic columns in lists

The lists of clients, programs, projects and users (in my  My team and Payroll applications) support the wide choice of columns with the current indicators:

In order to add columns the user needs to adjust the representation by clicking the button:

The majority of the lists supports “Period” filter that allows filtering entities having any kind of activity for a selected period. This filter also defines the time range for columns with “… for the period” indication.

For example, “Actual hours for the period” allows showing labor contribution tracked only during a specific period.

Monitoring panels

Monitoring panels can be found in program, project, client, user and your team cards.

The user card and the team profile show key indicators for a resource:

  • Overview — work summary for the period.
  • Dynamics — a bar graph that shows labor contribution and the prime cost of the resource.

Reports

Reports allow accessing the data in order to create a visual representation or export results to Excel.

There is total of 11 data sources with a lot of indicators and analytics (Report types).

According to our practice, users create their own reports because the system provides the wide choice of information, while all the users have their own demands.

Business analytics

Sometimes reports may be insufficient to combine data from various sources, provide complex structure or process big volumes of data.

We implemented special API in order to work with the analytics. This API provides flat data files.
